In a recent press release, the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) CEO Suzanne Campbell highlighted the need for new approach to addressing the skills shortage:
“AIIA would also like to reiterate its strong support for the spirit and intent of 457 visa requirements… 457 visas solve the immediate skills shortage issue local organisations are facing. The longer term solution to this issue is systemic changes in ICT education and skills development. This will take time and the industry must not be stalled in the meantime.”
The AIIA has long since recognised the key role of education and training in ensuring Australia sustains a suitable ICT workforce capable of meeting the demands of a modern economy.
With this issue now receiving significant attention at a national level, the time for tangible action is here… and we invite you to be part of shaping the nation’s response to the endemic problem of ICT skills shortage!
In this facilitated session of ICT leaders, VET representatives, ICT Employers and local Secondary School Principals, the results of a detailed survey on ICT skills supply and demand in Victoria will be unveiled and form the basis for the workshop.
Short presentations will set scene for table-based discussion – the outcomes of which will be shared, captured and fed into an ongoing research project run by the ICT Industry, Vocational Education & Training (VET) and the Victorian State Government.
Your input is vital to the success of the initiative, so don’t miss out on this historic opportunity to be heard AND to be part of re-shaping the way Australia participates in the digital economy of the future.
This event will enable all key stakeholders to gather together to create ideas and strategies specifically designed to help solve the fundamental problem the ICT industry is facing – that of attracting people to ICT.
