Derek is currently the lead for Architecture Review Taskforce (ART). ART has been formed to deliver a review of the Agency’s ICT landscape and delivery a 10-year ICT Architecture Strategy and plan by the Mid-Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook (MYEFO) in 2025.
The review will focus on legacy applications, data estate, data centre and data centre networks, and with cyber security at the forefront of future state plans. The review will deliver an investment strategy budget submission in partnership with central agencies for consideration in MYEFO 2025.
Prior to this role in ART, Derek lead the Technology Digital Assurance and Audit division to oversee the agency’s response to the findings of last year’s Australian National Audit Office’s Financial Statements Audit (ANAO). Derek also led the Technology Strategy Business and Architecture (TSBA) division which set the enterprise technology strategy, provided architecture, design, governance, policies, and planning that underpins the agency’s ICT capabilities. Derek has held several key positions including Infrastructure Engineering and Service Operations functions in Services Australia. In these roles Derek was responsible for both the operation and management of change across the majority of systems supporting Centrelink, Medicare, and Child Support – some of the most critical services to citizens and businesses in Australia.
