Dr Trevor Pearcey Centenary Celebration
Details
On 5 March 1919, Australia’s ICT icon, Dr Trevor Pearcey, was born.
One hundred years later, on Tuesday 5 March 2019, you are invited to join over 250 scientific, academic and industry leaders in celebrating Dr Pearcey’s seminal contributions to the modern computing era and to science more broadly.
The Pearcey Centenary Celebration will be held from 3:00pm – 7:00pm at The Sydney Nanoscience Hub, located within The University of Sydney Nano Institute.
Integral to Dr Pearcey’s legacy is his role in asserting Australia’s ability to act as a major player on a global tech stage. With the Institute’s Director Prof Ben Eggleton hosting the event, the Centenary Celebration is a chance to learn about the work of a true pioneer and the generations of Australian tech leaders that stand on Dr Pearcey’s shoulders.
The Centenary Celebration program will feature eminent speakers exploring three of Dr Pearcey’s prime areas of interest:
- Computing – with a focus on quantum computing;
- Astronomy and Radiophysics – where CSIRAC began within CSIRO, and;
- Nanoscience – with some focus on optics.
Speaker
- Barbara Ainsworth, Curator, Monash Museum of Computing History
