Collaboration in ICT projects-managing the risk and reaping the rewards.
ARETE GROUP
ICT / IP Law
Collaborating on ICT projects is what CollabIT is all about. As we know, collaborating on an ICT project can reap rewards such as expanding product / service range, increasing market share and providing an ability to access new skills, products or services.
Before getting into bed together, there are some important questions for collaboration partners to consider, resolve, and ideally document in a legally binding agreement. These include, who owns any IP that is created, what is the scope of licenses to use background IP, how must confidential information be protected, what is the allocation of risk between the parties, are there any post-collaboration restraints, and what are the specific rights and responsibilities arising from the relationship.
Shaun Creighton (Director and Lawyer) and Andrew Cash (Lawyer) lead the ICT law practice in Canberra at ARETE Group, IP and Commercial Lawyers. Shaun is a lawyer with over 10 years experience in ICT and IP law. Andrew is a lawyer whose ICT knowledge is underpinned by a degree in computer science.
Shaun and Andrew will lead a discussion on this and the broader legal issues which may arise when collaborating, such as risks arising if jointly owning intellectual property.
We will highlight the collaborative opportunities members of our community provide in Five Minutes of Fame. So come and find out why they are, just maybe, the right collaboration partners for you.
Make sure you bring plenty of business cards because this is the networking event for the ICT community in Canberra.
