STEM: Where are we at – a state and national perspective
There is increasing reference to STEM in the economic dialogue with various branches of government, education and industry all weighing into the issue. There are a range of STEM reviews and activities in progress across all these sectors, but the real challenge is addressing some of the fundamental structural issues that affect students decisions to pursue STEM careers.
Digital Technologies: A natural friend of STEM
Digital Technologies have emerged as a highly general-purpose toolset. In the classroom, Digital Technologies can open an entirely new door to STEM and provide students with avenues previously considered impossible. Karsten will draw a broad context of computational thinking, the history and technology leading to Digital Technologies and explain tangible approaches to project-based STEM learning in the classroom that will prepare the next generation of professionals to tackle wicked problems driving forward the Australian Economy.
