AIIA Healthcare Forum: myHealth Record – What’s needed for it to succeed?

Less than one in ten Australians are currently signed up with the PCEHR – an opt-in system. An independent review last year found this take up was not enough to make it sufficiently widespread to be of great use for health professionals. In addition the lack of sufficient and relevant content was another key barrier to its use by clinicians, and by patients. The Government has announced a major revamp of the national e-health system including a move to an opt out rollout of a renamed myHealth Record, the creation of a new Australian Commission for e-Health replacing NeHTA and absorbing e-health functions in the Department of Health and a drive to improve the content in the personal e-health record.
