The iAwards is the largest innovation awards program in Australia, and advocates for digital solutions in the health, wellbeing and medical sector. For the past 25 years, the iAwards has unearthed and rewarded home-grown Aussie innovators from the likes of The Royal Children’s Hospital MelbourneVision Australia and the National Blood Authority.

The iAwards is searching for the next outstanding solution driven technology that has the potential to deliver the digitisation of community health and wellbeing, improve efficiency in healthcare services, and break down barriers that prevent participation in society.

Our Skills for today, Jobs for tomorrow’ position paper states that the emergence of wearable devices and AI is empowering patients to self-manage their health and wellbeing, from monitoring temperature and blood sugar to cognitive coaching systems that analyse a person’s daily movements, sleep and food data. Trends in innovative healthcare include:

  • Increasing access to remote care
  • Use of wearables, clinical data and predictive diagnostics
  • Use of precision technology and robotic assistance

In 2017, the iAwards recognised Balconi Telecommunications for their Smart Torch – Global Live, which is a handheld two-way video conference system, providing remote areas with access to telehealthcare. This newly developed technology provides remote and disadvantaged communities with live access to medical specialists globally. It connects via Satellite, 3G, 4G and Wi-Fi.

Balconi Telecommunications snapped up a total of three National iAwards, including the AIIA and Australian Government Innovation of the Year award, the Mobility Innovation of the Year award, and the Community Service Markets award.

Con Michael – Balconi Telecommunications:
“If you want to be exposed to industry experts that offer you constructive advice, then you should enter the iAwards; they offer both strategic and operational models to help you along the journey of your idea.”
