The 2016 South Australian & Northern Territory iAwards winners and merit recipients were announced at the 2016 South Australian & Northern Territory iAwards Gala Dinner, held on Thursday, 16 June at the Adelaide Convention Centre, Adelaide.

The evening was hosted by AIIA CEO Rob Fitzpatrick, and featured keynote speaker Rita Excell, South Australian Business Manager, Australian Driverless Vehicles Initiative, and guest speakers Erma Ranieri, Commissioner for Public Sector Employment, Office for the Public Sector and the Hon. Kyam Maher, Minister for Employment, Minister for Aboriginal Affairs and Reconciliation, Minister for Manufacturing and Innovation, Minister for Automotive Transformation, Minister for Science and Information Economy.

South Australian Business Manager, Australian Driverless Vehicles Initiative

The future of mobility is set to change. The SA-based Australian Driverless Vehicle Initiative (ADVI), is the national leader bringing together industry, government and academia to harness the driverless vehicle revolution – and it’s happening fast! Rita Excell, Regional Manager SA, ADVI, will update us about the exciting and endless opportunities being created for South Australians, highlighting some of the key social, economic and business factors that will drive the introduction of this technology in South Australia.

Rita Excell is the Regional Manager of ARRB Group’s South Australian office and is currently undertaking the role of South Australian business manager for ARRB Group’s driverless vehicle initiative, which includes representation and coordination of almost 60 partners across technology, vehicle, and research organisations, including 10 partners from South Australia.

During her time at ARRB, Rita been responsible for managing key relationships with the State Road Authority and various local governments in South Australia. Rita has also worked on a number of key strategic policy projects for State Road Authorities across Australia and for organisations that manage public and private road infrastructure in Australia.

Rita is a qualified Civil Engineer with over 15 years’ experience in strategic transport planning and road safety. Her high degree of personal and professional integrity is evidenced by repeated nominations to strategic state, national and international committees and working groups dealing with sensitive and critical information.

Commissioner for Public Sector Employment, Office for the Public Sector

Appointed on 1 July 2014, Commissioner for Public Sector Employment Erma Ranieri holds a statutory role under the Public Sector Act 2009. The Act outlines principles and guidelines to improve and uphold public sector performance – it is the Commissioner’s role to bring these to life across government.

She was named 2014 Telstra Business Woman of the Year and SA Winner of the Telstra Community and Government Award for her role in leading transformational change throughout the public sector.

Erma currently oversees the Office for the Public Sector. The Office is responsible for a number of sector-wide reform programs.

The Honourable Kyam Maher

Minister for Employment, Minister for Aboriginal Affairs and Reconciliation, Minister for Manufacturing and Innovation, Minister for Automotive Transformation, Minister for Science and Information Economy

Kyam grew up in Littlehampton in the Adelaide Hills and then in Mount Gambier in the South East of the State. He graduated from Adelaide University with Law and Economics degrees before practicing law for the Crown Solicitor’s Office in South Australia. When Labor won State Government in 2002.

Kyam took on the role of Chief of Staff to Minister Terry Roberts who held the portfolios of Regional Affairs, Aboriginal Affairs and Correctional Services.Kyam then went on to serve as the State Secretary of the Labor Party in South Australia before entering the Legislative Council in 2012. Upon the re-election of the Labor Government in 2014, Kyam took on the role of Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Fisheries.

As of February 2015 he was elevated to the Cabinet and is currently the Minister for Employment, Aboriginal Affairs and Reconciliation, Manufacturing and Innovation, Automotive Transformation and Science and Information Economy. Kyam is also the Leader of Government Business in the Legislative Council.Kyam is particularly passionate about ensuring that all South Australians are afforded the dignity that good, meaningful jobs provide, and that all South Australians are able to share in the opportunities and benefits this State offers. He has spoken on a wide range of issues including Aboriginal Affairs, equality, the importance of science in society, and the challenges facing regional and country communities.
