David Hazlehurst became CEO of Services Australia at the beginning of January this year. Services Australia provides payments and services to Australians through Medicare, Centrelink, and Child Support, and by operating myGov. Serving nearly every Australian, it’s one of the Australian Public Service’s largest tech, digital and data shops. David has a long-standing passion for digital service design, based on UX principles. He will talk about the future of Services Australia and how digital tools fit within the organisation’s customer-centric approach and customer life-event journeys. David will outline how data and digital technologies are already transforming service delivery and discuss Services Australia’s approach to new and emerging technologies.

David Hazlehurst started as CEO of Services Australia in January 2024, bringing expertise in customer centred digital services, programme delivery, whole of government stakeholder partnerships, and a career spanning social and economic portfolios across the Australia Public Service.
David was previously Head of Secretariat for two major reviews: the National Disability Insurance Scheme Review and the myGov user audit, advising on the future of these essential Australian government services.
Prior to the reviews, David held Deputy Secretary roles at the Department of Agriculture, Water, and Environment, the Australian Trade, and Investment Commission (Austrade), the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science, and the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, as well as Interim CEO of the newly established Digital Transformation Office.
Earlier roles in the Australian Public Service include time leading the Higher Education Division in the Department of Education; Chief Adviser to the ‘Henry Review’ of Australia’s tax and transfer system in the Treasury and leading the Families Group in the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs.
David has a Bachelor of Laws, a Bachelor of Economics, and a Masters of Public Policy, all from the Australian National University.
