The tech and innovation markets in Australia are not large and funding pools are shallow, especially when compared to the US and European markets. The United States is the world’s largest single economy and, operating as a single market with 28 member states, the EU is the world’s largest trading bloc and the world’s largest combined economy. Together these two economies are worth around US$36 trillion.
Successful entry into these two huge, lucrative overseas markets can be crucial for the growth of some Australian ICT businesses. What are the challenges and barriers to entry that must be overcome? Why do so many businesses fail, and when is YOUR business ready to take the leap?

Steven Salzberg, Chairman, Global Access Advisers
STEVEN SALSBERG is a serial Entrepreneur and founder of numerous companies. He is the Chairman of Global Access Advisors, a strategic advisory, investor and capital access consulting firm with offices in the US, Australia and Israel. He advises multinational SMEs focusing on commercialising technology-rich products and services. Steven also serves as the US chief admin officer of iWebgate, an award winning network security technology company, and as the Global Strategy Director at digital human resource platform, Rision. Steven has built and managed companies in multiple sectors including ICT, mobile payments, food and beverage and passenger ships.
He is a member and active director of numerous boards including the American Sustainable Business Council, Board of Visitors of the CUNY School of Law, Envirolution, Friends of Hudson River Park, and the Social Venture Network (SVN). He is the Vice Chairman of GROWNYC (formerly the Council on the Environment of New York City) appointed by Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Steven is an Attorney and member of the Bars of New York and New Jersey.
Christelle Damiens, Founder, Exportia
CHRISTELLE DAMIENS founded Exportia in 2006, shortly after she migrated to Australia from France. She had worked in sales at IBM Paris for six years, but she decided to turn back on her successful corporate career to pursue her passion for international business. With her European sales experience in high-tech environments and ability to communicate in five languages (English, French, German, Italian and Hindi), Damiens decided to dedicate her company to helping small and medium-sized businesses grow internationally.
While working closely with dozens of high-tech Australian companies over the past decade, Christelle has developed a powerful 7-step Go To Europe program. Furthermore, she has created a set of online tools tailored specifically to enable high-tech companies to export successfully to Europe. Christelle has an MBA from Edith Cowan University in Perth and a degree in business administration from the École de Management de Normandie. Currently, she is the Managing Director of Exportia Australia and the President of Exportia France.
