Brendan Sargeant

Associate Secretary, Department of Defence

Mr Sargeant has had wide experience in Defence
and has held senior appointments including Deputy Head of the Defence Personnel Executive, Minister/Counsellor Defence Policy at Australian Embassy Washington, Deputy Director Intelligence at Defence Signals Directorate, Head of Strategic Policy Division and Deputy Secretary Strategy.

In 2006 Mr Sargeant transferred to Centrelink and held a number of senior appointments, including General Manager, Information Technology, Planning and Project Coordination, and General Manager, Strategy and Capability.

In January 2009, Mr Sargeant transferred to the position of First Assistant Secretary, Government and Defence Division, Budget Group, Department of Finance and Deregulation.

Mr Sargeant was promoted to Deputy Secretary Strategy (Operations), Department of Defence in February 2010, and subsequently transferred to Deputy Secretary Strategic Reform and Governance for two years prior to taking up the Deputy Secretary Strategy role.

He was promoted to his current appointment of Associate Secretary in September 2013.

In October 2015 Mr Sargeant completed the Advanced Management Program at Wharton’s Business School.

Mr Sargeant has degrees in Political Science and English Literature.

Meegan Fitzharris

Minister for Transport and Municipal Services, Minister for Higher Education, Training and Research and Assistant Health Minister

Meegan  was elected the Member for Molonglo on 16 January 2015 following a countback after Chief Minister Katy Gallagher resigned to pursue a seat in the Australian Senate.

Originally from New Zealand, Meegan has lived in Canberra since 2000, and in Gungahlin since 2007 with her family. A proud mother, she loves exploring Canberra’s playgrounds, walking around the local nature reserves and spending time with her three young children. Meegan is passionate about her local community and has been involved in various community groups, including the Gungahlin Community Council.

Meegan’s professional background has included working for the NSW Police, the Australian Federal Police and the Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department. Most recently Meegan worked in the office of ACT Chief Minister, Andrew Barr. She has also been a stay-at-home mum and ran her own small business from home. Meegan  is currently the Member for Molonglo, but will stand for ACT Labor in the new electorate of Yerrabi at the 2016 ACT Election. She loves her local community.

Meegan’s values are based on growth, opportunity and fairness. She loves Canberra and wants our city to be vibrant, with knowledge based jobs, world class schools, a high-quality health system and an integrated transport network. She is passionate about issues affecting women, including health, education and support for victims of domestic violence; and passionate about Gungahlin and making sure Australia’s fastest growing region has the infrastructure and services it needs.
