Every year the Federal & ACT Council of the AIIA hosts an event celebrating International Women’s Day (IWD). This year, the 48th IWD, we are delighted to announce a very special event with the keynote speaker being one of the most accomplished ICT executives Australia has ever produced, Ms Kate Woolley. Join us at the Hyatt Hotel to hear Kate’s amazing journey. From studying in Melbourne and beginning her career in Australia to moving to New York, juggling parenting, becoming a partner at Bain & Co to now being one of the most senior global executives at IBM, Kate’s story is an inspiration.
Kate will also be joined at the event by a panel of senior female technology leaders from across government and industry. The theme of this year’s event “Embrace Equity” will be explored through a discussion around inclusive leadership, and proactive and productive approaches to deliver more equitable outcomes for women in the workplace.
They will also cover the importance of data use and governance, data protection and critical emerging technologies in industry and government, and what must be done to protect women, citizens and their rights.

The Hon. Mr Arthur Sinodinos AO
Ambassador of Australia to the United States

The Hon. Arthur Sinodinos AO is Australia’s Ambassador to the United States of America, taking up his posting in Washington in February 2020.
Ambassador Sinodinos AO was previously Australia’s Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science and was a Senator for New South Wales in the Australian Parliament from 2011 to 2019. During his parliamentary career, he also held other key roles in and outside Cabinet, including Cabinet Secretary and Assistant Treasurer.
Over a career spanning four decades, Ambassador Sinodinos AO has dedicated his professional life to the advancement of Australia and its people. On the election of the Hon. John Howard AC as Prime Minister of Australia in 1996, Ambassador Sinodinos AO was appointed the Prime Minister’s Senior Economic Adviser and in 1997, the Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff, a position he held for nine years. Between 1987-1989 and 1995-1996 Ambassador Sinodinos AO also served as Senior Economic Adviser to Mr Howard while in opposition. He started his Australian Public Service career in 1979, rising to the Senior Executive Service in the Department of the Treasury.
In 2006, Ambassador Sinodinos AO left government to work with Goldman Sachs JBWere, followed by the National Australia Bank and various corporate appointments.
In 2008, Ambassador Sinodinos AO was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia for his service to politics through the executive function of government, to the development of economic policy and reform, and to the Greek community. In 2019, he was made a Distinguished Fellow of the Australia & New Zealand School of Government in recognition of his promotion of public sector leadership.
Ambassador Sinodinos AO is accompanied on posting by his wife Elizabeth, and their three children.

Kate Woolley

Kate Woolley is General Manager of the IBM Ecosystem where she leads all global sales and programs that support tens of thousands of IBM partners, as well as managing IBM’s strategic partnerships and alliances.
Kate ensures partners can easily do business with IBM, and her team provides the resources, support and technology that partners need to create innovations that matter for clients. IBM partners are putting technology to work, with real results, delivering value to clients with hybrid cloud and AI solutions and services.
Kate’s team is responsible for all partners who sell IBM technology, embed or run on on IBM technology, and/or provide services for IBM technology. This includes partners that distribute and sell IBM hardware and software (VADs/VARs), ISVs, global and regional system integrators (SIs), and Strategic Partners comprised of hyperscalers and some of the world’s largest software companies. She is also responsible for Ecosystem Engineering, and IBM’s Developer Advocacy community which includes our commitment to the Call for Code program.
Before leading the IBM Ecosystem, Kate was Chief of Staff to IBM’s CEO, Arvind Krishna. In that role, she played a pivotal part in amplifying the strategic priorities and impact of the CEO across the organization. While working closely with the CEO, Kate gained insight into all parts of IBM’s global footprint, and in doing so, developed a deep appreciation of how critical the ecosystem is in fueling IBM’s growth strategy.
Prior to joining IBM, Kate was a Partner in the New York office of Bain & Company (2006-2020). Kate was a leader in Bain’s Technology practice where she co-led Bain’s Cloud Computing practice globally. Kate held a number of leadership positions at Bain, including leading the Women@Bain program in New York.
Kate holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Science (Operations Research major) from The University of Melbourne. She, and her husband moved to New York from Australia in 2010 and have two children.

Dr Graham is an experienced Chief Architect with a demonstrated history of working in the Australian Government industry.
She is skilled in Digital Innovation, Research, Computer Security, Strategy, and Architecture. She is a strong design, security and ICT professional with a Doctor of Philosophy – PhD, focused in Mathematics and Computer Science – Enterprise Security Architecture from the University of Adelaide.
Dr Graham was the winner of the WIC Woman of the Year award in 2022.
Rebecca Fealy
Assistant Commissioner, Integrated Compliance
Australian Taxation Office
Rebecca has a public service career in data & analytics spanning twenty five years, programming her way through the APS levels and then leading data & analytics capabilities in Senior Executive roles. Rebecca has led work across the data & analytics capabilities at the Australian Taxation Office and the Department of Health & Aged Care, has co-authored strategic reports on public sector data at Department of Prime Minister & Cabinet, and has represented Australia internationally on data and financial crime initiatives through the OECD and joint international taskforces. Rebecca has worked across data management, IT technical roles, data science and engineering, and process automation, reporting and visualisations for delivery. Rebecca most recently spent time leading the data & analytics capability at the federal department of Health & Aged Care, leveraging integrated data for insights to drive policy during the COVID pandemic, and now is six weeks back into a role at the ATO with a focus on fraud and systems integrity.
Natalie Gunn, PhD
Data and AI Innovation Leader
IBM Australia
Natalie is a Data and AI Innovation Leader working with the public sector. Natalie is an experienced research scientist and led the healthcare agenda at IBM Research Australia. The focus of the team was to make your eye the window to your health, using sophisticated machine learning techniques to derive clinical insight. She has a PhD in medical biology and is passionate about bringing innovation into everyday use.
