We know that true change occurs for the people of NSW when the public and private sector come together, and this is very much the case when talking about the future of work for all Australians. The AIIA has partnered with Jobs for NSW to raise the debate about the future of work, and how we can all come together to ensure that Australians make the most of the opportunities on the horizon. In a series of events, the AIIA and Jobs for NSW will invite a diverse range of experts representing different industry sectors, to examine the challenges and the opportunities that we must understand now, for the future.
Over the course of the next year, a monthly roundtable discussion will be held to turn strategy into action, based on the research already undertaken by both Jobs for NSW through its Jobs for the Future report and AIIA through its Skills for Today: Jobs for Tomorrow report. The full program for 2018 will be outlined on 15 November 2017 at the following Job for the Future Forum – we look forward to seeing you there to participate in this important discussion.

Karen Borg

Appointed as inaugural CEO in December 2015, Karen Borg leads the newly-formed privately-led, NSW government-backed organisation. The $190m Jobs for NSW fund aims to assist job creating businesses to scale and succeed.
Karen was previously President for ResMed, and prior to this, she was Global Vice President, Marketing for Advanced Sterilisation Products, a Johnson & Johnson company based in Irvine, California.
She has worked in the fast moving consumer goods and healthcare industries in senior commercial roles in Australia, the United Kingdom, Russia, Taiwan and the USA for leading organisations including Nestle, Revlon, Goodman Fielder and Seagram, with a broad functional background in marketing, sales and business development.
Alan Jones
Entrepreneur in Residence,
BlueChillia and KPMG
Alan advises founders in startup accelerators BlueChilli, Startmate and Catalysr, and later stage startup clients of KPMG High Growth Ventures, on lean startup methodology, product, marketing and capital raising strategy.
A founding investor in Australian tech startup venture funds Pollenizer, Startmate and Blackbird Ventures, Alan is currently raising a venture fund, M8 Ventures, focusing on pre-seed and seed investment in Australian early-stage tech startups.
Alan is also an active angel investor here and in the US, with investments including Bugcrowd, Buzzy, Biteable, Cardly, Elevio, GeoSnap, HappyCo, HowAboutEat, Macropod, Muru Music, Propeller Aero, Tzukuri, Workyard, UpGuard and Upperstory.
Alan’s service agency for startups, The New Agency, was acquired by BlueChilli in 2012. Previously, he was Product Director, South Asia for Yahoo!, Inc.

Leslie Loble
Deputy Secretary, External Affairs and Regulation,
NSW Department of Education
Leslie Loble is Deputy Secretary in the NSW Department of Education and leads cross-sectoral, state-wide and national developments in education, spanning early childhood education, schooling and higher education. She shapes State policy and leads negotiations with the Commonwealth over education policy and funding, including agreements worth more than $10 billion over four years to New South Wales. She led the NSW development of the Gonski school funding reforms and new State funding arrangements for early childhood education. She is a member of major education boards and committees and chairs the national Schools Policy Group on behalf of Australian Education Ministers and CEOs.
Her leadership in public policy was recognised when she was named one of Australia’s 100 Women of Influence in 2013 (Australian Financial Review-Westpac Award).
Prior to joining the Department of Education Executive, Ms Loble was appointed by President Bill Clinton to several key roles including as Chief of Staff to Labor Secretary Robert B. Reich and to senior executive positions in the U.S. Department of Labor. Ms Loble has a Masters in Public Administration from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Science from Cornell University.
Jan Owen

Jan is a highly regarded social entrepreneur, innovator, influencer and author who has spent the past 25 years growing Australia’s youth, social enterprise and innovation sectors.
In 2012 she was named Australia’s inaugural Australian Financial Review and Westpac Woman of Influence; in 2014 she received the Doctor of Letters (honoris causa) from the University of Sydney, and was awarded membership to the Order of Australia in 2000. She is the author of Every Childhood Lasts a Lifetime (1996) and The Future Chasers (2014).
Jan is the CEO of the Foundation for Young Australians and YLab, the global youth futures lab. Her lifelong mission is to unleash the potential of young people to lead positive change in the world.
Graeme Plato
Executive Director of Policy Enablers and Analytics,
NSW Department of Industry
Graeme Plato is the Executive Director of Policy Enablers and Analytics for the NSW Department of Industry. He and his teams focus on national skills policy and educational pathways; the design of the contestable vocational training market in NSW; data analytics and applied research around skills; innovation and productivity; and delivering the Government’s Smart Skilled and Hired program. They also support two advisory bodies to the NSW Government – the Innovation and Productivity Council and the NSW Skills Board.
Most recently, Graeme was the Director of the NSW Skills Board’s Secretariat. Prior to that he worked for the UK Government’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Cabinet Office. He held a number of roles focussing on conflict and UN Peacekeeping; the European Union; South Eastern Europe; and strategic finance and business planning.
