The History of the iAwards
The National Awards for Excellence through Information Technology, now the iAwards, was first held in 1993 alongside The Australian Financial Review and the Pearcey Foundation. The aim was to recognise public and private sector organisations that had achieved business excellence through the application of information technology. The AIIA quickly went on to hold the awards independently, expanding the program to state level and extending the competition to students.
The iAwards is now Australia’s longest running and most broadly scoped innovation recognition program, promoting excellence in the Australian digital ecosystem from the likes of Google Maps, Atlassian, Wotif and WiseTech Global.
2024 iAwards: Shaping our Future
The iAwards has returned for another year. This year, the theme of the year is ‘Shaping our Future’. We welcome you to submit your entries showcasing your innovation and be part of the AIIA’s celebration of innovation in the 2024 iAwards.

iAwards 2024 – Shaping our Future is FREE to enter for every individual, business, company and organisation.
ENTRY IS SIMPLE
All you need to do is to complete an entry form and provide us with a 3 minute video that answer the following four questions:
- What is the opportunity that your solution enables and for whom?
- How is your solution different?
- What is the technology that powers your solution?
- How is your solution making (or will make) an impact?

2023 iAwards: Celebrating 30 Years of Innovation
In 2023, we celebrated 30 years of iAwards and achieved a record-breaking number of entries that went on to achieve Australian and international recognition.
Six Australian iAwards innovations made it to the international stage at the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA) Awards – and all six either won an award or achieved merit recognition which shows that Australian innovation is world class.
Thank you to all entrants for supporting the iAwards and helping it grow to the prestigious occasion it is today.

In 2022, the theme of the year was ‘The BIGGEST Pitch – Real world problems. Real world solutions.’ We wanted and were impressed to see how you and your peers took on real world problems and created real world solutions. Congratulations to the winning teams!
2021 iAwards: The BIGGEST Pitch - Innovators Disrupting the World.
In 2021, the iAwards went virtual in order to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. Throughout the challenging times, the quality of entrants did not fault. In fact, entries for 2021 were as good as ever, if not, better, with the theme of the year – Innovators Disrupting our World. And disrupting our world, they did.
2020 iAwards: The BIGGEST Pitch - Competition with a Difference
The climate created by COVID-19 pandemic posed many challenges amongst Australians professionally and personally. We believe that when times like this occur, the opportunity for creating meaningful innovations is at its highest which means that now is the time to support and showcase great innovation by committing to the 2020 iAwards. 2020 saw the iAwards flipped on its head to make it a competition that better suits the current environment by simplifying the competition and providing entrants with the opportunity to deliver their BIGGEST pitch!
