Victoria’s Department of Environment and Primary Industry (DEPI) is accountable for boosting productivity in Victoria’s world class food and fibre sector, managing our natural resources, protecting the environment and responding to fire, flood and bio-security emergencies.

The Department – which has an annual spend of over $1.45 billion and more than 3,800 employees across Victoria – was formed in April, 2013, through the merger of the Department of Sustainability and Environment and the Department of Primary Industries.

Positioning environment and agricultural services together in one department allows the delivery of better and more efficient environmental management and agricultural support and provides a ‘one-stop shop’ approach across private and public land and water.

In April 2013, Adam Fennessy was appointed the Secretary of DEPI.

At this unique AIIA event, Adam will reflect on the achievements made in his first year in the role and will discuss how DEPI plans to further use technology to deliver against the Government’s priorities of continuous improvement and reducing the pressure on public finances, whilst building capability.

Adam will discuss the roles that cloud solutions, data mining, business analytics and geospatial data quality are expected to play in meeting objectives around transformational change and performance. He will also explore his vision for public and private sector collaboration to achieve short and long term goals.

This event will provide insight into ways in which the Victorian Government is reviewing its engagement with industry.
