Regional eHealth Innovation – Continuing the Journey

Tuesday, 12 May 2015

The Brewery Complex – Seminar Theatre, Ballarat Technology Park Central, Lydiard Street South, Ballarat VIC 3350 Australia

Details

The Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) in association with the Committee of Ballarat and Federation University would like to extend an invitation for you to join them at the forthcoming event ‘Regional eHealth Innovation – Continuing the Journey’.

This event will feature three speakers who each have different perspectives on the Australian Healthcare industry – yet share a common commitment to driving value for money from healthcare investments.

Given that there will always be limits on available funding and resources, our speakers will talk about how they are working within constraints to deliver best possible outcomes.

Dr Helen Thompson, Director of the Centre for eResearch & Digital Innovation, Federation University and head of the Maximising e-Health Technology task team will introduce the work of the Committee of Ballarat. Dr Thompson will also provide insight into the work being done by the ‘Maximising e-Health Technology’ task team (an initiative of the Committee for Ballarat together with Grampians Medicare Local).

This event will feature presentations as follows:

  • Brendan Lovelock, Health Practice Lead, Australia and New Zealand for Cisco Systems, who will provide a ‘big picture’ overview of developments in Victorian hospital healthcare – with a particular focus on the emerging role of the Victoria Co-ordinated Cancer Centre (VCCC), which will deliver an innovative approach to cancer treatment but also cancer-related research.
  • Alison Hardacre, CEO and Co-Founder of HealthKit and winner of the 2013 Health Industry iAward will share her insights into the healthcare industry – from a commercial perspective.

HealthKit is a platform for patients and practitioners that aims to make healthcare more efficient, effective and accessible for everyone everywhere. Launched in April 2012, HealthKit’s first customers in the US, UK and Australia joined in October 2012, and now has practitioners in more than 40 countries around the world.

  • Kate Nolan, Director, Information Management at Ballarat Health Services, will reflect on the hard decisions that must be made – when needs are many and funding is limited – in order to prioritise clinical investment and extract maximum value from existing technology platforms.

Ballarat Health Services delivers a comprehensive range of general and specialist care, across every key medical and healthcare discipline, including: Acute Care, Sub-Acute Care, Residential Care, Community Care, Psychiatric Services and Rehabilitation Services.

The event will finish with a panel session facilitated by Anne Cheetham, National Programme Director for Health with Ajilon and Chair of the AIIA eHealth Special Interest Group (SIG).
