NSW Government Briefing with Department of Justice

The Justice cluster comprises 12 interdependent and interlocking government agencies that deliver legal, law enforcement and emergency services. With a FY1819 budget allocation of $10.2B ($8.8B in capital expenses and $1.4B in recurrent expenses), the AIIA NSW Government SIG is delighted to start off this year’s breakfast briefings with Aaron Liu, CIO, Department of Justice presenting Justice’s ICT priorities for the future. He will be joined by Robert Hilditch, CIO, Fire and Rescue NSW for a Q&A session after the keynote address.
During the session we will explore:
- The impact of putting the citizen at the centre of design thinking and the ICT technology landscape dependencies when mapping customer journeys?
- The role emerging technologies such as AI, IoT, Virtual and Augmented Reality and Gamification play in supporting Premier’s and State priorities:
- Premier’s Priority to reduce domestic violence: reduce the proportion of domestic violence offenders reoffending by 25 per cent by 2021;
- State Priority to reduce violent crime: local government areas to have stable or falling reported violent crime rates by 2019;
- State Priority to reduce adult reoffending: reduce adult reoffending by 5 per cent by 2019.
- Key IT Challenges and Opportunities faced with and how is the Department of Justice and Cluster Agencies working with Industry to facilitate the inevitable digital disruption
How, as leading advocates of ‘As a Service’ models, Department of Justice and Fire + Rescue see the evolution of the GovDC play out with the increase in hybrid cloud models whilst focused on data privacy, security and sovereignty.

Aaron Liu
CIO, Department of Justice
Aaron Liu is the Chief Information Officer, Department of Justice. He has been in the role since 2015 and has held senior roles in government, legal and criminal justice sectors both in NSW and the UK.
Aaron came into the technology sphere later in his career and has brought a business focus to the role of CIO.
Robert Hilditch
CIO, Fire and Rescue NSW
Rob Hilditch joined Fire & Rescue NSW (FRNSW) in December 2015 and was permanently appointed to the position of Executive Director Information Technology, CIO in July 2016. He has more than 25 years’ experience managing and delivering information, communications and technology solutions to large businesses. Solutions delivered include major technology-enabled transformation and change programs, implementing Enterprise Resource Planning capabilities and the creation of a Finance Shared Service Centre.
Prior appointments include Interim CIO IT Services Uniting Care NWSACT, CIO Goodman Fielder, CIO Wesfarmers Industrial & Safety, Head of Information Technology AWB Ltd and CIO Wesfarmers Landmark.
