The Australian Space Agency (ASA) has recently celebrated its second year in operation. Its vision of enabling the Australian space industry to grow and become a $12bn industry – and create 20,000 jobs by 2030 – is starting to gather momentum. Australian businesses have never been in a better position to enter international supply chains and the Federal Government’s $150m for space research to back NASA’s Moon to Mars Mission is accelerating the ASA’s objective.

Key space investments centred on Adelaide’s Lot Fourteen, one of the Australia’s premier innovation, research, and collaboration precincts, are driving further opportunities. Examples include international space businesses setting up in Australia like Tyvak (a US nano-satellite company), SITAEL (Italy’s largest privately-owned space company) and Saber Astronautics (implementing Australia’s Mission Control Centre).

At the heart of this innovation is the $245m SmartSat CRC which will develop new intellectual property and specialist industry expertise that will spawn new businesses, create export economic value and generate new high-tech jobs for all Australians.

The Gravity Challenge, a national technology innovation program linking space-data innovators with qualified demand in key sectors like Mining, Oil & Gas, Defence & Emergency Management, Health, Agriculture, Transport and Logistics and the Environment also calls Lot Fourteen home and the program recently announced a round of 10+ compelling challenges from Australia and the UK to 250+ innovators.

With this confluence of activity and commitments, the time is right to raise the curtain on what is happening in the Australian Space Sector. Members can gain insights into downstream opportunities that this exciting sector presents for the ICT sector.

During the event, participants will receive:

  • an update on the Federal Government’s Moon to Mars programme
  • an overview of opportunities for the ICT and space sectors to collaborate through the Gravity Challenge
  • information on opportunities emerging from the development of Australia’s recently announced multi-million dollar Mission Control Centre.
