John Price
John Price is a veteran of the IT Industry who built parallel careers in professional services, and as a volunteer giving more than 40 years’ service to industry and government including the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) and ACS Foundation.
John was an AIIA National Board elected member for 15 years; he headed the Education and Training forum for 10 years and chaired the association for 3 years between 2003 and 2005. Prior and during his service to the National Board, John served for 20 years as an elected member (3 years as chair), of the AIIA’s NSW Council. During this time, he was appointed to the NSW Government Information Industry Advisory Council – one outcome being the creation of the first ICT Master’s Degree which UTS built and delivered. John went on to establish a working group that led to the IT Industry being accepted as an Industry Training Advisory Body (ITAB). John chaired the first iteration of the ITAB and was later deputy Chair to David Thodey. The result for the industry was the development of Industry led competencies implemented nationally that underpinned Certificate 3 to the Associate Degree course curriculum. John led a team who met regularly with Universities with the aim of influencing industry participation.
Since 2008 John has been the Chair of AIIA’s Alumni, membership being all past AIIA Board Directors. Continuing his interests in promoting IT, digital media and associated disciplines, John joined the board of ACSFoundation in 2008. The foundation provides work integrated learning (WIL) university scholarships for selected students in IT and related disciplines. AIIA has a memorandum of understanding with the ACSFoundation.
Not comfortable with the term ‘retirement’ John views this time of life as having ‘more options’ and blends family time with mentoring and coaching Start-up Founders and is an active member of Brisbane Angels . Earlier this year John moved to Queensland with his wife Vivienne to be closer to grandchildren, and is thoroughly enjoying the move.
