The AIIA has a very strong presence in Western Australia through its membership which represents the depth and breadth of the diverse ICT community. Our members play a significant part in the development of Western Australia’s economy. Our members all play an active role in helping to drive the state’s digital economy and contribute to shaping national agendas. Like our interstate counterparts, the AIIA in Western Australia connects members to a network of local industry contacts here on the ground, key state government agencies, provides access to local and national events, delivers insights and business opportunities.

AIIA’s interests and activities in WA are coordinated by the WA Council, an elected group of representatives from across our local membership, who work on a voluntary basis to promote the Association in Western Australia and the digital industry sector.

Activities in 2022 & Beyond

The AIIA in WA:

Along with an active Council membership, WA supports five (5) state-based Policy Advisory Networks (PANs) to advise on policy issues. They are the Government Digital Skills, Innovation, Cyber Security and Mining & Energy PANs. A number of these PANs intersect with the AIIA’s network of national PANs and help to inform policy outcomes;
We have an ongoing program of engagement with key state government agencies including the Department of Premier and Cabinet, Office of Digital Government, the state Department of Finance and the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science & Innovation;
Hold a number of seats on the WA ICT Consultative Forum, a key planning and advisory forum for the Minister and Government Agencies;
Engage directly with key Ministers and the Opposition to ensure the government is well versed on industry trends;
Have produced a number of local industry discussion papers and provide a direct and well-connected source for information and analysis;
Provide local media commentary and insight in the local press;
Host a vibrant events program of business breakfasts, CIO luncheons, member showcases and workshops which provide insight into industry trends, valuable market intelligence and regular networking opportunities.
Promote local ICT capability through our sponsorship of the WAITTA Incite Awards, the WA aspect of the iAwards program.

Key Achievements

Ongoing engagement with the WA State Government through various channels;
Prepared submissions to the WA State Government on digital inclusion and the Digital Strategy for the Western Australian Government 2021- 2025;
Assisted in the preparation and presentation of a survey of the WA digital industry 2021 in conjunction with the Department for Jobs Tourism Science and Technology;
Worked with the Department of Jobs Tourism Science and Innovation to obtain funding to conduct of a review of the contribution of ICT to the WA economy;
Continuing work on the WA Jobs planning to maximise the employment impact of the digital industries sector in WA;
Met and briefed representatives of the government including the new Minister for Innovation and ICT, the Hon Stephen Dawson MLA;
Sought the establishment of the ICT Consultative Forum and represent the industry on the Forum.
