Growing the Pie – Edition 2.0
The AIIA released the second edition of Growing the Pie, this paper captures key policy wins for the AIIA over the first quarter of 2018. Additionally, Growing the Pie serves as a reference document for members on areas of engagement within policy. Key policy wins include:
- Hosted: Cyber Security Roundtable with Gai Brodtmann, Shadow Minister for Cyber Security and Defence Personnel
- Hosted: Fifth DTA Cadence Meeting – checkpoint with members on Government transformation and industry engagement
- Signed: DTA / AIIA MoU – the MoU is designed to improve industry engagement in government ICT policy and project delivery
- Secured Funding: xShip Program: Secured funding from NSW Department of Innovation to develop a business case modelled on a ‘Higher Apprenticeship’ with TAFE NSW
- Raised Profile: Copyright Amendment (Service Provider) Bill 2017 – AIIA testified at a Senate hearing to extend safe harbour laws to online platforms.

The AIIA convened its first quarterly Security Special Interest Group (SIG) Meeting with members for 2018 on Monday March 26. The Security SIG is made up of a large cross-section of our member base who have a keen interest in tracking policy developments within the industry and through government.

As the security landscape continues to develop and change in Australia, groups like this one are important for providing context, policy responses to Government and general tracking of the industry. 2018 is already proving to be a big year in security and the trend will only continue given the Governments ambitious roll-out of online solutions and services for Australians.

Digital Skills Special Interest Group (SIG) Meeting
The AIIA convened its first quarterly Digital Skills Special Interest Group (SIG) Meeting with members for 2018 on Wednesday March 28. The Digital Skills SIG is made up of a large cross-section of our member base who have a keen interest in tracking policy developments within the industry and specifically focused on education, STEM and training.

- Digital Skills Group’s Objectives
- Digital Skills Group Outcomes
Australia’s education market lacks the level of qualified personnel across primary, secondary and tertiary institutions necessary to propel Australia forward. Challenges for Industry and Government lie in ensuring the pipeline of teachers and students does not continue to drop from current levels. 2018 is an exciting time in education and digital skills, with a lot happening across Industry and the public service.

The Digital Identity SIG is made up of a large cross-section of our member base who have a keen interest in tracking policy developments within the industry specifically focused on digital identity within Australia.

The Australian Government are progressing the Trusted Digital Identity Framework (TDIF) and have recently announced Phase 2 of the framework for consultation. As this matures, the DTA will roll this out to market with the aim of ensuring Australian’s are protected in the digital ecosystem, 2018 is a very exciting time for digital identity in Australia with a lot on the line.
