Preparing Work Ready Graduates
Thursday, 8 October 2015
As part of the work we are doing to support Australia’s STEM agenda, AIIA is engaged with the Office of the Chief Scientist.
Following release of the Chief Scientists STEM Strategy last year and the subsequent release of the Vision for a Science Nation paper AIIA has responded through a detailed submission identifying amongst other things, the need to improve alignment between tertiary ICT curriculum and industry workforce needs.
Several AIIA members have raised significant concerns about the mismatch between ICT tertiary graduates and the skills and knowledge required by the market.
With the aim of providing more insight on this issue to the Office of the Chief Scientist we are keen to hear the views of member companies on this issue. Specifically:
- Please advise your views regarding the claimed mismatch between the knowledge and skills of ICT tertiary graduates and your needs as a business operating in the ICT sector?
- Please identify what you see as the significant areas of knowledge/skills gap?
- Please advise your views regarding how these issues can be addressed
