Rick Scurfield

Richard Scurfield, “Rick,” is President for the APAC region of NetApp. Rick is responsible for leading and growing the business across the region, including driving the channel strategy, managing strategic partnerships, and developing the company’s emerging products business. In addition, he is the single focal point for all cross-functional organizations that have operations in the Asia Pacific region.

Rick has been with NetApp for over ten years in various sales leadership and management roles, most recently as Sr. Vice President and General Manager of the branded E-Series business and all OEM routes-to-market. Combined, this represents approximately $1B in revenue to the company. Prior to that, Rick ran the Defense and Military Intelligence business in NetApp’s Federal Systems organization and grew sales from less than $20m to over $200m in less than five years.

Prior to joining NetApp, Rick spent over fifteen years in the United States Public Sector sales and consulting services with Powersoft, Sybase and Price Waterhouse. He led, managed and grew organizations from startups with few employees to organizations of over 200 direct and indirect personnel. Rick holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pittsburgh and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame.

Brian began his career in retail in 1989 where he developed the first retail ‘store-in-store’ concept for the EdconGroup in South Africa. Having experienced the growth impact of using POS data and retail basket data mining, Brian was drawn to the world of Business Intelligence and commenced a business orientated technology career.

His career is dominated by a theme of business transformation through applying technology to improve business. He has served at customer and vendor organisations in executive management and Board committee roles across the globe giving him broad exposure across various industries and technologies. Brian has an active Board and Board committee career in Australia.

Having formerly held Executive IT and senior IT leadership positions with Anglo American PLC, Standard Charter Bank, IBM, ASG and AusGroup, Brian is currently serving as a Sr. Executive Partner at Gartner supporting Boards, business and IT executives as an advisor on the impact of technology on business models and people.  His current client list constitutes large enterprise Commercial, Government and Regulatory clients across Australia.

As a fundamental business principle Brian believes that the sum total of progress in business can be exceptional when IT and the business partner in delivery.

Shifting to digital delivery with the business, the technology department requires a new operating model. The breakfast conversation will cover a macro view and explanation of the new operating model and capabilities required for technology executives to succeed in delivery. It will explain the key enterprise operating components, targeting digital business scope, shifting to consumption based technology solutions, agile leadership and the importance of vendor and industry partnerships.The discussion will include key Board expectations of technology executives in helping the business achieve digital outcomes.

Gavin Strack

Gavin has been working in the automation, instrumentation and communications fields for more than 15 years in the defence, telecommunications, and mineral processing industries, and has held various positions in operations and maintenance, process control engineering, consulting and EPCM fields. He is one of the Co-Founders of Convergio, a digital transformation and software development company based in CORE.

Prior to starting Convergio, Gavin worked as the Manager – Process Control for the Australian Pacific business unit for two large Gold companies. His responsibilities included process control optimisation work on remote mine sites, mentoring and training of site Operations and Technical personnel, as well as developing and implementing regional strategies to improve the reliability and performance of process control and instrumentation across the Australia Pacific region.

Gavin holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Electronics and Communications) from Curtin University and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Southern Queensland.  Gavin is also a Certified Functional Safety Expert from the CFSE Governance Board and a Certified Professional Engineer with Engineers’ Australia.
