Details

Join the AIIA as Daniel Roelink will share key insights and lessons learnt from scaling responsible AI practices across the NSW Government, highlighting the long-term vision for AI risk management in NSW and the critical role of industry and vendors in achieving it.

Building on NSW’s leadership as one of the first governments globally to release an AI Assurance Framework (AIAF) in March 2022, Daniel’s insight will reflect on how AI governance has evolved — from a standalone assessment tool to an integrated governance model, supported by Cabinet, that promotes AI adoption while maintaining the right balance of risk.

Key lessons include the need for strong partnerships to scale AI responsibly, the importance of consistent standards to reduce cost and complexity, and the role of a robust risk framework in accelerating safe AI adoption and delivering benefits.

Attendees will be invited to support NSW’s next phase by testing the redesigned AIAF for practicality and sharing insights on emerging platform and product risks. Consultation timing will be communicated through AIIA.

Register early as seats are limited. FREE for AIIA members to attend with non-members able to purchase a ticket for a small fee.

Keynote speaker

Daniel Roelink

Director of Enterprise Architecture for Digital.NSW

NSW Department of Customer Service

Dan Roelink is the Director of Enterprise Architecture for Digital.NSW within the Department of Customer Service. In this role, Dan is responsible for advancing the reuse of digital platforms, reducing technology debt across NSW, and driving the adoption of emerging technologies, while ensuring ethical and legally compliant digital practices.

Dan leads the team responsible for the NSW AI Assessment Framework, the NSW AI Guidelines, and supports agencies in implementing responsible AI practices. He contributed to the 2024 NSW Parliamentary inquiry into AI, collaborated with the Commonwealth on the National AI Assurance Framework, and is actively involved in cross-jurisdictional consultations on emerging AI standards and regulation.

His team is currently developing an incentive-based AI risk framework and AI agentic guidance, building on the successful completion of a pilot that established standard governance and assurance requirements to strengthen NSW’s AI oversight.
