We keep the iAwards entry process simple and free to make it easy for busy innovators. But there are still some tips that can help you showcase your solution to its full potential.

In this webinar recording, Chief Judge Collins Rex takes you through the different categories and entry process, providing tips and answering questions along the way.

If you don’t have time to watch, we’ve summarised key points of the webinar here.

About the entry process
iAwards entries are made through the Awards Force Platform. If you haven’t already, you’ll need to set up a profile on this platform – it only takes a couple of minutes.

Start your entry (and update it at any time)
Once you’re logged in, we’ll ask you for some basic details about yourself and your innovation. It’s important to remember that once you’ve started your entry, you can update your entry at any time. So don’t think you have to wait until you have a block of time to complete the entire entry, make a start on it now.

Main section
There’s two parts to the main section –– a written component and a video submission.

  • Written component
For this part, you’ll need to answer four key questions about your innovation (300 words max per question).
    • What opportunity does your solution enable and for whom?
    • How is your solution different?
    • What technology powers your solution?
    • What impact has your solution made or will make?

These responses provide judges with the necessary information to evaluate your entry properly.

Tip: Try to avoid unnecessary information here. Instead, cut to the chase and explain in a really clear way what makes your innovation so special and what sets it apart from the rest.

  • Video submission
To finish up, we just need a short video (3-minutes long max). Use this video as a chance to add more to your written answers, get your message across and inject a bit of your own personality!
Don’t worry – this video does NOT need to be professionally made. Just grab your smart phone, set it up on a table so it’s steady (or get someone to record you) and off you go.

Tip: Don’t stress about trying to make this video Oscar worthy! As long as we can clearly hear you, see you and see anything your referencing, that’s good enough!

Keep the judging criteria top of mind
Don’t forget these points about what can help your entry.

  • Judges want a comprehensive overview of your innovation.
  • This is a tech competition, so include details on how the technology was developed, designed, and built.
  • It’s OK if your innovation uses existing technology. For example, some innovations will be based on Microsoft technology. It’s about the innovation and how you’re using that technology for a positive impact.
  • Highlight your unique value proposition and competitive advantage – even if similar solutions exist.
  • Clearly demonstrate how your innovation meets user needs and provides value.
